“I took this in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago. It was a gorgeous day and we walked from the Fairy Building to pier 39 and headed up to Ghirardelli Square where this beautiful trolley car was sitting empty in the street. The colors were nice, some retro greens and golds. I was ready to post it in the dailies* when I happened to read your post about posting black and whites in February.”
“I don’t have very many processing tools, so I work from my gut. I usually use two or three tools to do conversions. For this picture, I used three Picasa tools 1. B&W 2. saturation 3. Boost…I played with the Infrared Film tool before I did the Boost but couldn’t get right. I cropped it and called it done!”
Thanks Billie. What attracted me to this photo were the lines and the geometry. Vertical and horizontal lines, squares and angles, all combined for an interesting subject. Taken with Billie’s Canon Rebel T4i, at f/5.6, 1/100s.
*By the way, Billie refers to posting “in the dailies”. Billie maintains a beautiful gallery hosted by SmugMug, and for 4 years has been posting a photo there every day in the SmugMug Daily Community. In fact, that’s where I first met Billie. I recommend you take a look at her impressive body of work.
Well done Billie! I love SF and the trolleys are a big part of the history. Black and white gives this photo a historical feel to it. And I agree with Ed, the lines and geometry of the shot are great. I think your ‘boost’ really makes it stand out too!
Thank you Rodney:)
Thank you so much Ed. There have been such great black and whites this month. It was fun to participate and I am honored to have one of my pictures in you blog.
Thank you Billie, happy to have you with us!
Bilie, Great shot and I love your “dailies.” The discipline of posting a shot daily certainly puts the focus on your hobby and encourages one to get out there and shoot. We could all take a lesson from that.
Wonderful gallery. Keep it up.
Fantastic B&W tones. Love it!
Beautiful black and white capture, Billie, well done!
