This video reportedly shows a group of seemingly random and disconnected individuals surrounding a photographer carrying an expensive camera and large lens. As shown, the man is separated from his lens by these thieves.
But watch again. Hit the space bar or click pause to watch the various maneuvers taking place. They’re all calculated, choreographed even. Note the distractions. See how one removes the lens, hands it to another who then hands it off again. Someone pokes at the man from behind to divert his attention away from the ones who actually took the lens.

As I like to wander around on my own taking photos, I often think about situations like this. I try to be discreet and cover my camera with my tote bag as much as possible but other than always being with a group there’s only so much one person can do.
Absolutely agree. It would be very hard to stave off an attack such as this. Really need to have good situational awareness and to practice much caution when walking about with expensive gear.

Thanks for the educational video Rey. Not sure any of us can prevent this totally, but maybe we can see warning signs earlier and run away or something? Hope it never happens to any of us.
