“Trees are the earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.” – Rabindranath Tagore

Image taken in Big Cypress National Preserve (Everglades, Florida).  I pulled in to the ranger station and asked the same question I always ask in such places: “If you had X (in my case, X being 2) hours to kill here, what would you do?”  His reply was straightforward: “Proceed along the scenic 23 mile road right here (here being a spot on the map) and you’ll see all sorts of things.”  Given my constant desire to see all sorts of things, off I went.

I guess “scenic” can mean different things to different people.  The image above captures the essence of approximately 22.5 miles of said scenic 23 mile road.  It felt endless…

… but in the end, I loved it.  Tranquility, the humming of the tires on the gravel path, large and swooping herons descending from flight, the quiet of an endless pursuit…

Hugs and Prayers to Boston! This post gave me a chuckle, in spite of yesterday’s events. So Thanks Rey! It is funny how one persons scenery is another person’s endless trek. In the end you had a peaceful time, and that made it worth it it seems. I heard a story once about a man from Nebraska who went to NH with his wife and daughter because they said it had beautiful scenery. He wasn’t impressed. His quote was…. “I can’t see anything but trees”… BTW, is this an entrance or an exit shot?

Thanks, Rodney. And thank you for the well wishes. It’s a sad, sad time here in Boston.

And it’s an entrance and exit shot!
