Some time ago, I posted the below image. I’m a fan of black & white portraits and I thought this one was particularly interesting. But ultimately, it didn’t capture the spirit, the essence of the subject. So, it was interesting… but did I, as photographer, fail her? After all, it’s our duty to enlighten, to show something unique within the object of our photographic pursuit. Interesting be d*mned.
The photo above is another attempt.
Taken with a Fujifilm X10. Some contrast added and brightness extracted. Left some blown out details in the hair and background for effect. The background blur of the small sensor compact camera isn’t great, but that’s the camera I had with me.
Nice shot. Did you use flash or a reflector to illuminate her face?
Thanks, Prentis. 100% natural light. I sometimes go on walks such as this one with a reflector and a more capable camera. Not that day, however.

Gorgeous! Nicely lit Rey.
Thanks, Ed!
Based on the facial expressions you’ve captured a very different person in the beautiful color photo.
Hi Rey, Great pictures of Nicole. Great job!
