My objective here was to capture a fairly serious shot of Nicole, taking advantage of the late day sun and the relative harshness of the shadows as they began dropping around us. Though the color version is striking (golden hour is just so perfect for portraits such as this) I did go with the black & white version (a Nik Silver Efex conversion) which stresses the contrast and adds a bit of grain. It’s all about the mood.
Trying for the very first time, a ‘plastic fantastic’ cheapo Pentax 35mm f2.4 prime lens here. I have to say, I’m pretty pleased with the sharpness and rendering of out of focus areas.
Every DSLR shooter should have at least one fast prime in the 35 to 50mm range.
I know this young lady, and I must say, you’ve really captured a look that’s very different from her normal, pleasant beauty. Nice job with the lighting and that bokeh is dreamy! Ed
P.S. Did you know that this is our 300th post on 2 Guys Photo?!?
