James and I sat for something like eight hours at Big State House Hearing a few months ago. Industry representatives told the state senators and reps all the good and bad that would come of it. Predictions of world ending scenarios seemed overcooked, but my own was simmering along nicely as James and I waited for our turn.
Out of boredom, I took the Fujifilm X100 from my bag and snapped this grab of him. Classic pose, chiseled look… right down to the thinking man’s chin-in-hand stance. You’d have thought this was staged, but not so.
ISO at 1250 (which the X100 handles with ease), f2, 1/60 second. Mauled in Topaz B&W Effects.

I like the smoothness of this! Not sure if that is the best word . . . but that is what it looks like to me. Smooth, Bright.
A very great classic pose catch with super BW tones.
Mauled!??!? I think it looks great. Kara says smooth… I agree, very even, tones, great comp. Does James know you took the shot? More with Topaz BWE to follow! Ed
Love this shot… trés photojournalismesque….not a word, I know, but what it ‘says’ to me.. I like the ‘smoothness’ too that Kara mentioned… It’s the look I get in Lightroom3 when I adjust the Luminance. The contrast is really nice and the shallow dof really is perfect here.
I read your postings on the Fujifilm X100..it is not an inexpensive camera if I remember correctly.. Here’s a question..if you were to travel to Europe for 3 weeks and did NOT want to carry a dSLR, what would your first choice be for a good substitute camera in the $600 or less range?
Hillary – great question. Check out 2 Guys Photo this coming Monday, September 26th. I just reviewed a camera and… well… that’s my answer to your question.
Thanks,
Rey
